At Paul Brayton Designs, we are moving towards a greener future by implementing environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices. Recognizing our responsibility to the planet, we are committed to reducing our ecological footprint while offering beautifully crafted, high-quality furniture. We source sustainable materials, utilize energy-efficient production methods, and minimize waste throughout our supply chain. We aim to provide our customers with stylish and durable furniture and high-performance textiles that enhance their space and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.
TEXTILE: SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
Paul Brayton Designs includes a vast collection of faux options that are PVC and Phthalate Free, including nylon matrix constructions, polycarbonate and vinyl.
Our textile patterns include many with post-consumer recycled content, sourced primarily from used plastic water bottles, natural fibers such as wool without added FR, and responsibly manufactured polyester blends.
We support the Healthier Hospital Initiative through our offering of tested products that meet the goals of the Safer Chemicals Challenge, and comply with all Prop 65 warnings where applicable.
We partner with U.S. based yarn suppliers and mills for more than 95 percent of our textiles, primarily on the east coast within 500 miles of our facility. Our finishers are in North Carolina where we stock and ship all of our line.
Paul Brayton Designs actively encourages our own staff to eliminate waste, reduce water and paper consumption, avoid pollution, conserve energy and use responsible manufacturing practices. We meet or exceed all federal, state and industry requirements and actively strive to increase awareness and participation in improvement efforts towards sustainable practices.

FURNITURE: SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
Flexible Polyurethane moldings are CFC, HCFC and SVHC free: Our European partners use water expanded polyurethanes that do not contain CFC (dangerous for ozone) or metalcatalysers which are harmful for the environment. These polyurethanes are made without use of phthalates and are also Formaldehyde emissions free.
Chemicals:Our flexible polyurethanes comply with the following standards:
- EU 1907/2006: REACH
- SVHC free (201 Very High Concern substances), according REACH norm
- EU/ 528/2012: Biocides free;
- EU 65/2011 – EU 863/2015: ROHS (Cadmium, Mercury, Phtalathes, Hexavalent Chromium free)
- EC 1005/2009 Montreal Protocol: ODS free, substances that damage the Ozone Layer (CFC, HCFC, metal catalysts)
- EC 850/2004 Stockholm agreement: Organic Pollutants free
- They contain a very low quantity of VOCs (far lower than the limits requested by the main Italian and International regulations)
Our products are made with fire retardant polyurethanes according to:
- Italian class 1IM - UNI 9175:2010
- California Technical Bulletin 117:2013, Section 3
- European EN 1021:2014
- EU 65/2011 – EU 863/2015: ROHS (Cadmium, Mercury, Phtalathes, Hexavalent Chromium free)
- French class M4 (NFP 92-507:2004)
- EC 850/2004 Stockholm agreement: Organic Pollutants free
- IMO (MED 96/98 according to 2010 FTP CODE 307/88, Part 8, Paragraph 7.2)
Our semi-finished seats meet the criteria to achieve the important GREENGUARD certification, that measures the indoor spaces air quality.
Our flexible foams were tested according to the International norms UNI EN ISO 16000-9:2006 + ISO 16000-6:2011. The quantity of VOCs emissions of our polyurethane foams and our semi-finished armchairs are far lower than the limits required by the GREENGUARD standards.
CARB ATCM Phase II US EPA TSCA Title VI:The plywood panels included in some of our shells (necessary to stapling the fabric during the upholstery) are in conformity with the following “Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products Rule”:
- CARB ATCM 93120 (Airborne Toxic Control Measure) Phase II
- U.S. EPA TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act), Title VI
Metal Bases: The metal bases we use meet the requirements of compliance with the trademark “infinitely recyclable" (Technical Protocol 2003/01: Fe / Ni), in conformity with the European policy in favor of sustainable development, for rational use of metals, compatible with the environment. At the end of its life, it can be put again into the production cycle an unlimited number of times; so it can be recycled and reutilized, with significant savings of natural resources and energy. "Infinitely recyclable" is a trademark of the European Community.
Wood Bases: The wood bases are constructed from solid European ash or beech. Wood is a renewable resource.

We are proud to announce as of August 1st, 2024, all Paul Brayton Designs fabrics are 100% PFAS Free, and we are dedicated to proactively remain ahead of the ever-changing PFAS requirements.
